After getting in some new products and playing around a bit, I like the new cotton cords we’ve gotten so much, I couldn’t resist making myself this cute, simple necklace – perfect for rainy days!

If you like it, make one for yourself! The cord features a style I have always knows as “spiral staircase” and it the easiest style of friendship bracelet I ever made. How to and materials list after the cut.
Materials
- several feet of cord (between 5-8 or so depending on the thickness you want)
- focal beads with large holes
- clasp
- wire
1. Depending on how thick you want it, cut 1-3 pieces of cord slightly longer than you want the final product. Cut one more piece 3-5 times as long. Knot them all together at one end, leaving enough sticking out to wrap easily in wire or to attach a crimper clasp. (I used two different colors here to better illustrate how to tie the knots, the only color you should see in the final product is that of the long piece.)

2. Using the long piece, tie a simple knot around the shorter pieces. Do it again. Make sure that you go in the same direction around the cords as you did the first time. Do it again. See a pattern yet? Keep on going – the knots will naturally line up next to each other, creating a spiral effect. To keep the spiral uniformly spaced, I grab the piece by the knotted end and then twist the knots tighter around it every so often.

3. When you have almost reached the halfway point (or wherever you want your first bead), knot the threads together again and then feed a bead onto all of your strands. The hole size of the bead you choose will determine how many strands you can use and therefore the thickness of the finished product. Continue adding beads and tying knots until your piece is done!
4. Add a clasp to one end. Attach some chain or create a loop by folding over the other end and wrapping it with wire. Ready to wear! Wasn’t that easy?
Happy crafting!
