How they're made:
Swarovksi was the first company to use an automatic cutting machine, and that has been the instrument of their success. The key to their sparkle is the precise cutting mechanism, and the addition of lead oxide (which both softens the glass for cutting, and increases the level of refraction). Crystals are at their most brilliant at 33% lead, no more, no less, and Swarovski's patented technique insures each crystal is a piece of perfection.
