How it's made
The most opulent of shell beads, mother of pearl is made from the iridescent inner surface of mollusk shells (primarily from the pearl oyster, and freshwater pearl mussels).
The shells are then cut to shape, and polished for durability and glossiness. Natural mother of pearl can be tinted to just about any color without damaging the integrity of the shell.
